Community Shed
The West Ardnamurchan Community Shed aims to create a welcoming, inclusive and accessible space where members of the community can come together to share skills, learn, create and support one another.
The Community Shed will provide opportunities for people to take part in practical activities such as making, crafting, repairing, reusing and recycling, while encouraging creativity, confidence and connection. It will be a place where friendships can develop, people can support each other and the wider wellbeing and resilience of the community can be strengthened.
The project will deliver a range of activities, including workshops, skills-sharing sessions and informal drop-in opportunities, within a safe and inclusive environment that is open to all members of the community.
How it will run
The Community Shed will be developed and overseen by a subcommittee of WACDC, which will be responsible for progressing the project, developing activities and supporting the long-term sustainability of the facility.
The Shed will operate as a community-led resource, encouraging participation from people of all ages and abilities. Activities will be shaped around local interests and skills, providing opportunities for residents to share knowledge, learn new skills and contribute to the development of the community.
Funding and Resourcing
The WACDC Community Shed subcommittee has engaged with the University of the Highlands and Islands (UHI) and agreed a lease arrangement for the Kilchoan Learning Centre as the proposed location for the project.
Funding applications will be developed and submitted during 2026 to support the establishment of the Community Shed, including the development of facilities, equipment and resources needed to deliver activities for the community.
The project will build on the strengths of local volunteers and community participation to create a sustainable, shared space that supports connection, creativity and wellbeing across West Ardnamurchan.
