Kilchoan Jetty Renovation
WACDC supported the major refurbishment of the village jetty and slipway to improve access, safety and opportunities for the local community, particularly children and young people.
The project aimed to create improved facilities for small craft activities, enabling young people to gain experience on the water, develop confidence and build connections with the marine environment that is central to life in West Ardnamurchan.
How it ran
WACDC acted as the lead organisation in securing funding for the jetty renovation project and worked closely with the West Ardnamurchan Jetty Association (WAJA), who oversaw the delivery of the works.
WAJA provided regular updates and progress reports to the WACDC Board throughout the project, ensuring effective communication, oversight and community involvement.
A significant contribution to the project came from local volunteers, with many members of the community giving their time and skills to help complete the renovation works.
Funding and Resourcing
WACDC supported WAJA in securing the funding required for the refurbishment through successful applications to Highlands and Islands Enterprise and Archaeology Scotland, alongside a community GoFundMe appeal.
The combined funding support enabled the project to be completed on time and within budget. The successful renovation demonstrates the impact of partnership working, external funding and strong community commitment in maintaining and improving important local infrastructure.
